Logan’s Run Carousel for Poser

August 28th, 2010

I haven’t be posting much these last few months.  What happened is I had been unemployed for much of last year and the very begin of this year, which left me with time and energy to work on making stuff for Poser and sharing it though my blog.   However, I was fortunate to get a temp job earlier this year which turned in to a permanent gig.  Overall it’s a great job, but the hours are more and the commute a bit longer than at my old job which has the downside of really curtailing how much time I spend on my blog, posting in forums and even staying in touch on Facebook (for me writing is not something I like doing but is a necessary evil)  Anyhow, I have finally manage to finish something that I can share and more importantly I’m getting around to posting about it.

You can Download the Carousel from here.

This is a model based on the Carousel set from the legendary movie Logan’s Run.  The Model has been rigged to work in Poser and should also work in Daz Studio with no problem.   The Model is set up so you can easily select the various parts such as the Life Crystal in on the floor can be hidden or adjusted.  I also added doors to the entry corridors at the bottom of the arena which were not there in the movie.

New Desktop Pic

March 14th, 2010

I’ve been using the same picture on my desktop doe a long time.  So I thought that it was time for a change.  So with Saint Patrick’s Day coming up I felt like making something with and Irish Theme.  And yes I’m still using and old 4:3 ratio monitor.

Ring Development Kit

December 31st, 2009

To make it easier for me and maybe others to create rings for use in Poser I have made a Ring Development Kit.  The idea is that in the future when I make a ring I will not need to make and fit new prop files for specific figures.  I can just modify one of the sets of Ring Development files for the new ring.

RingDev1-480

The Ring Development props are set up as smart props for all of the fingers on Victoria 3 and 4 and Michael 3 and 4.  There are 3 sets of props included with the Ring Development Kit.  The first set, Band, has only one material group, Metal1.  The Second set is Trillion and has two material groups, Metal1 and GemStone1.  The Third set is 7StoneRing and it has four material groups, Metal1, Metal2, GemStone1 and GemStone2.  There is an addition set of rings, Thin Band, but it is the same as Band but just thinner.

In addition to the Props there are also Material files for basic Metal and Gemstone materials.  I’ve tried making DAZ Studio Shaders with DAZ Studio 3.  However, after saving the Shaders they do not change anything when I try to use them.

Also included is the Photoshop PSD file that was used to make Thumbnails with and might be usable as a starting point for others to make thumbnails with.

To use the Ring Development Kit, first model a ring and position it to line up with one of the OBJ file of from the Ring Development Kit.  Also set up the material groups to match those of one of the sets in the Ring Development Kit.

After saving the model as an OBJ file, copy the Ring Development set that has the material groups being used and rename the files.  A file renaming utility is pretty handy for renaming many files at once.

Next change the object reference in the props file to point at the new object by finding the objFileGeom line in the prop file and replace the path and OBJ name with the new ones.  Some editors like EditPad will allow multiple files to be opened and to do a search and replace on all files at once.

Finally make new thumbnails for the new ring props.  That’s where the included PSD file can be useful.

You don’t need to use the Ring Development Kit to make rings.  You can download it to just use the rings in Poser with your Poser peeps.

You can download the files from ShareCG: RingDevKit.zip

Thanks

December 27th, 2009

I just wanted to say thanks to all the people who helped my with my recent 12+1 days of Christmas Poser Freebies.

Thanks to the people on my tester list, NeilV, Adrie van Dijk, Loveicy, LycanthropeX, JasmineSkunk and eblank.  In particular I would like to thank LycanthropeX and Adrie van Dijk for their feedback that spurred me to make somethings better that I had initially intended.  I would alsop like to give extra special thanks to NeilV for all the DAZ Studio Mats that he  made for things and eblank for the texture sets that she made to go with some of the clothes.

I would also like to thank all of you who took the time to leave comments or just say thanks either here, at the DAZ forum or ShareCG.  I have seen all you’re comments and appreciate them all.  They give me that warm fuzzy feeling and are a major reason why I like making free stuff.   Thanks
